Nanda Roep – Career
After graduating from the School of Journalism, Nanda Roep began working as a freelance journalist for a wide range of national media outlets. She wrote for newspapers such as Trouw and Utrechts Nieuwsblad, as well as magazines like Viva and Margriet. At a young age, she also became editor-in-chief of Schrijven Magazine.
While still studying, she signed her first children’s book contract with the publishing house Leopold. Her debut children’s book was published in 1996. Since 2008, Nanda Roep has also been publishing novels for adults. An overview of her publications can be found on her Wikipedia page.
Nanda Roep – Children’s Books
Nanda Roep began her writing career with children’s books in the tradition of Roald Dahl, within the fantasy genre. Her book Betoverend (“Enchanting”) is a great example of this early style.
In 2002, she chose the detective genre for her series Plaza Patatta. This allowed her to create stand-alone stories within a larger series — ideal for young readers.
Later, she also wrote tween and teen series for early secondary school readers, such as the Tanja books and Chatgrlz, featuring Isa, a first-year student with ADHD. For Tina magazine, she wrote the series Tina Toppers under the pen name Chanelle.
Starting in 2024, she began publishing a preschool series titled Pompom and the Wheel of Feelings.
